Don grew up on a dairy farm at Plymouth in Cerro Gordo County. He graduated from the University of Iowa and Luther Seminary in St. Paul. He is a retired clergyman of the Iowa Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church.
Don’s wife Kathy is from Forest City and holds a master’s degree from the University of Iowa. Their son, Lee, has a business degree from the University of Iowa and has a wife and two daughters. Don and Kathy have owned a large timber tract for many years and are very familiar with all the culture that goes with it, completing several conservation practices. They like to read, garden, travel, and catch trout. Don has served on the Johnson County Conservation Board and belongs to several conservation organizations. He is a firm believer in the mission of Bur Oak Land Trust and also serves on the Land Acquisition and Protection Committee.
