George McCrory started volunteering for Bur Oak in February 2019, working in the office on communications and marketing projects. He works part-time at the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Iowa as a web content writer, and worked as a communications specialist in the Office of Sustainability and the Environment for seven years. He is an avid gardener and enjoys travel with his wife Kellee, and is enrolled in the Master of Strategic Leadership program at Mt. Mercy University.
George uses his marketing and communication skills to promote Bur Oak Land Trust programs and events. He has created flyers, posted on social media, and helped with events, including Prairie Preview and Annual Meeting.
George’s interest in land preservation and conservation stems from growing up on a farm in Cass County, Iowa, and is working on CRP pollinator seeding project on the property. George enjoys working with Bur Oak Land Trust staff and looks forward to helping with events and telling the stories to further their mission. He also plans to spend some time out of the office volunteering at properties.
“Volunteering at Bur Oak Land Trust helps me keep my communication skills sharp. It’s also a great way to connect with others engaged in environmental issues and natural area preservation,” says George.
